Job Town shows fires and other emergencies in New York City, generated from public FDNY dispatch radio, and lets people comment on them. This page explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Profile: the name, email, company and photo you choose to add. Your name and photo appear on your comments. Your email and company are never shown to other users.
- What you post: comments, thumbs up/down, reports and blocks.
- An account key stored on your phone so the app knows it's you. We don't use advertising IDs, and the app has no ads or third-party tracking.
- Moderators only: a push-notification token so we can alert them about reported comments.
We don't collect your location. If you allow it, the map shows your position on your phone only; it isn't sent to us.
How it's used
- To run the app: show your comments, keep your account, and send sign-in codes to your email.
- To keep comments civil: comments are checked by an automated filter, and reported comments are reviewed by a person.
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who processes it
- Hetzner (servers in the EU/US) stores the app's data.
- Anthropic (Claude) reads radio transcripts to describe incidents, and reads comments to check them against the community rules.
- Resend sends sign-in code emails.
- Expo delivers push notifications to moderators.
How long we keep it
Your profile and comments stay until you delete them or your account. Radio recordings are deleted after 48 hours.
Your choices
You can edit your profile at any time and delete your account in the app (profile → Delete my account), which removes your profile, photo, comments and votes. For anything else, email support@jobtown.app.
Children
Job Town isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
